The Valle Crucis Company, also known as the Farthing General Store, began operations in 1907 by Charles B. Taylor and his son-in-law, Dr. Henry B. Perry. In 1914 Richard Aubyn Farthing and his brother Ben Farthing took over management, Aubyn eventually buying the business.
